CHEF JOSEPH'S STORY

You Only Live Once

As a young man, Darrell went through many trials that tested his faith as he searched for the light, stumbling through the dark tunnel of his life before emerging out on the other side. He once experienced severe homelessness as he was building his hot sauce brand called “Chef Joseph’s Kick Sauce” when he relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Determined to follow his vision, he mapped out a hot sauce route that stretched across the “757” Tidewater Virginia area to sell his “Kick Sauce” at various barbershops and hair salons out of the trunk of his car. Because of his relentless determination and refusal to give up, people who supported him didn’t even know that he was homeless!

Author, Entrepreneur, and Indie Filmmaker

Through the various types of day shelters and overnight winter programs that assisted with getting people that were homeless out of the streets, he was able to rebuild his life, became
a Chef, and eventually opened two restaurants without any handouts or bank loans. He did it by donating plasma and working temporary job assignments.

After many years in the restaurant business, he decided to pivot so that he could focus on his life’s major work, which is to travel the country and tell he and his great-grandfather’s story to help inspire others.
